Is Community a real WatchGuard Firebox alternative at $0?
Yes. Community is a working next-generation firewall / UTM at $0: named objects, zones, one canonical document, preview, commit, rollback by id. Same image as paid tiers, at small scale. You commit policy on the appliance you run. No WatchGuard Cloud account is required to commit. Firebox still has local Fireware tools; the contrast is the Cloud/Dimension subscription stack, not “Firebox has no local UI.” It is not a trial timer. We do not claim AuthPoint, Total Security, ThreatSync, or MDR parity.
Does the AI change the firewall on its own?
Only if you turn it on. By default, AI suggests changes and a person approves each one. On Business and Enterprise you can turn on automatic blocks, which act only when two signals agree, are rate-limited, and expire on their own. This is not MDR.
Do I need WatchGuard Cloud, Dimension, or Total Security to commit policy?
No. SecureGuard is a firewall you run yourself, and Community is free. You make and save policy changes on the firewall itself, with no cloud account needed. Firebox can also be managed locally with Fireware Web UI or WSM, as well as through WatchGuard Cloud and Dimension.
